Transgender actress Nava Mau played an important role in the smash hit series that has got everyone talking.
Who played Teri in Baby Reindeer?
Actress Nava Mau plays Donny’s girlfriend Teri in the Netflix hit Baby Reindeer.
The seven-part series is based on the real story of Richard Gadd, who stars as Donny, a comedian who is relentlessly stalked by a woman called Martha after he offers her a free drink at the bar he works at.
One piece of light relief for Donny is when he meets Teri on a dating app.
The pair begin a relationship, but his stalking nightmare takes a toll on their relationship.
On appearing in the series, actress Nava told Digital Spy: “It seemed really important to show people that trans women exist in real life and in relationships with real people.
“I could see Richard’s heart in the writing, and I hope that people will see it too.”
Speaking to Netflix’s Tudum about her character, she said: “It felt like the first time reading a character that was written by someone who actually had known and loved a trans woman.
She continued: “There’s a light that I think pulsates out of that kind of vulnerability, and so all of the characters in the story then are cast in that light.
“And I felt that in that first read of Teri.”
Who is Nava Mau?
Born in Mexico, Nava Mau is an actress, filmmaker and director who has served as producer on short films like Sam’s Town, Lovebites and Walking Hour.
She is also known for shows like Hidden Canyons and was on the production team for Netflix’s documentary Disclosure.
Speaking about her career in the film and TV industry, she told Elle in 2021: “I do really like working in a variety of capacities.
“I would say that my favourites are directing and acting, obviously.”

Away from Baby Reindeer and the actress is best known for starring in HBO’s Generation.
In the 2021 series she played the role of Ana.
The popular show followed a group of High school students as they explored modern sexuality.
