POOR Bernie Winter already has enough on her plate in Coronation Street – and now her secret past is about to walk onto the cobbles as well.

The character, played by Jane Hazlegrove, will be facing off with her ex – as well as her secret son, who will be played by Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts.

Far from the happy reunion it sounds, it leaves Bernie fearing the worst.

A source exclusively told The Sun: “Jacob will be playing Bernie’s secret son – his dad, Denny, was abusive to him and Bernie.

“So when her son appears, she’s worried he is a chip off the old block and has something to do with Lauren’s disappearance.”

The Sun revealed last week that Jacob would be joining the soap, after six years on Hollyoaks as Damon Kinsella.

We know his character is an essential part of Lauren Boltons’s disappearance plotline, but how he’s involved is still being kept under wraps.

In scenes to air in the coming weeks, the shady new character will be spending a lot of time with Lauren (Cait Fitton), and Corrie’s police duo Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) and DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers).

A source previously told The Sun: “Corrie bosses were really impressed with Jacob in his audition and he landed the part straight away.

“He’s getting along really well with the cast, and will make quite the impact with viewers when he hits screens in a few weeks.”

But while we wait for this new character’s arrival, first Bernie has to deal with the arrival of her ex, Denny, on Coronation Street.

Denny is the father of Paul (Peter Ash) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell), but has never been seen in the Manchester suburb until now.

He’s encouraged to reach out to the family, cornering Bernie outside the café after hearing Paul on the radio talking about his life with motor neurone disease.

Wanting to bond with his son before he dies, his presence is not entire welcome by Bernie or Paul’s other half, Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) who knows Denny was physically abusive to his family.
