Bobby had been summoned back to the station for further questioning, where DS Swain gave a shaken Bobby a grilling, and reminded him that perverting the course of justice is a serious offence and carries a custodial sentence.
Bobby returned home and told Carla how under pressure, he made out that the intruder in Lauren’s flat was wearing a balaclava and a dark coat with a fur-trimmed hood.
Later, Bobby revealed that he’d changed his statement as he suddenly remembered seeing a man running out of Lauren’s flat, Cassie, Evelyn and Nina listened with interest.
Cassie told Evelyn and Nina that not long after Lauren’s disappearance, she remembered seeing a coat in the charity shop fitting the description Bobby gave.
Evelyn and Cassie returned from the charity shop and told Nina that the coat was gone but there were some other clothes that came in with it, and one of the jumpers had a name tag – Daniels.
The teacher was then brought in for further questioning, but Coronation Street viewers couldn’t believe a grown man would have his own name in his clothing.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one wrote: “Couple of questions… Why did Daniel have his name in his coat? Is he 6? And why has Carla turned into a complete, delusional nitwit?”
Another shared a gif of a child face palming and added: “Daniel Osbourne signing all his old clothes before donating them.”
During the interview, DS Swain brought up how Daniel had been tutoring Lauren and helping her pay for exams, which left him furious.
He hit back claiming the police had thing for arresting nice people, including Roy “the nicest man in the world.”
Coronation Street viewers were equally incensed, with one writing on X: “So is the moral of the story here with Daniel and Roy not to be nice to people and do a good deed lol.”
Another added: “So is the moral of the story here with Daniel and Roy not to be nice to people and do a good deed lol.”
A third tweeted: “I think one of the most infuriating things in all this is people’s good deeds being used against them.”
