EASTENDERS fans have been left baffled after a major character missed out on the memorial outing for Lucy Beale.
It has been ten years since the character, played by Hetti Bywater, was killed off on the BBC soap as part of one of the show’s most memorable storyline’s, Who Killed Lucy Beale?
The epic whodunnit spanned across 10 months and it was eventually revealed that Lucy’s brother Bobby had killed her and enlisted mum Jane to help cover it up.
Amid a plethora of family secrets, both Lucy’s mum and grandmother turned out to be alive when they were in fact thought to be dead at the time Lucy passed.
A year later, Kathy Beale turned out to still be living and just last year Lucy’s mum Cindy also turned out to not have died.
Despite not being around to get to know Lucy, both Kathy and Cindy have expressed their regret over not being present in her life.
It came as a shock to EastEnders fans when they then learned that Kathy was shunning a memorial get together to mark ten years since her death.
As Cindy and Ian decided it was best for everyone to come together in memory of Lucy and share stories of her past, it was confirmed that Kathy would not be attending.
Ian explained that Kathy was “busy” and wouldn’t be able to make it.
As Cindy, Ian, Peter, Lauren, and even her killer Bobby gathered with Cindy’s daughters, Gina and Anna, to raise a glass, Kathy was nowhere to be seen.
However, her actual whereabouts were revealed just seconds later.
Rather than go to her granddaughter’s memorial, Kathy nipped out to take part in the raffle at the community centre’s fundraiser which left fans perplexed.
It appeared odd that the show chose to have her attend the charity event in the hopes of winning a prize instead of being with her family at the difficult time.
Kathy could be seen amongst the crowds as Yolande was forced to take to the stage by the evil Pastor Clayton mere moments after he assaulted her in truly harrowing scenes.
Commenting on Kathy’s snub, one fan said: “Obsessed with Kathy skipping Lucy’s 10th anniversary gathering and attending the fundraiser.”
Another then theorised: “She’ll go to any length to avoid Cindy.”
Despite her presence at the fundraiser, Kathy was oblivious to the horror that Pastor Clayton had put Yolande through as he locked them in a room together and touched her inappropriately.
