CORONATION Street fans have spotted a blunder as Maria Connor failed to notice a telltale sign that Gary Windass has been playing away.
In recent weeks, Gary has been spending time with former flame Sarah Platt, but at one point she made a drunken pass at her ex during a heart to heart at his flat.
Gary has been spending time with ex Sarah Platt recently[/caption]Gary’s wife Maria has been none the wiser, and in last night’s episode of Coronation Street, Gary reached out to Sarah again after seeing her knock back the wine in the Rovers Return.
The pair ended up back at her apartment drinking wine as they talked about their respective issues.
Gary had no idea that Maria’s son Liam had been found unconscious at home after taking the Benzos he had found at Paul Foreman’s flat earlier in the evening.
The teen has been struggling with anxiety ever since his bullying ordeal at the hands of Mason Radcliffe, and when he arrived home to an empty flat, he suffered a panic attack and decided to take some of the medication.
He was found by Maria and Paul’s partner Billy Mayhew, and they rushed him to hospital.
Frantic with worry, Maria repeatedly called her husband but Gary chose to ignore her calls while he was with Sarah.
When he eventually answered and learned what had happened to Liam, he rushed out of the flat to head to the hospital.
Maria demanded to know where he had been and why he hadn’t answered his phone, and Gary lied, saying he had left his mobile in his van while doing something else.
But Coronation Street viewers were quick to spot a blunder on Maria’s part, after she failed to notice the telltale signs Gary had been drinking.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one wrote: “It’s a mystery why Maria can’t smell the alcohol on Gary’s breath…”
Another added: “Surely Maria can smell drink on Gary’s breath…or maybe she can smell his bull***t instead.”
A third tweeted: “Gazza breathing wine fumes all over dopey Maria!!”
Meanwhile a fourth shared: “Ooo Gary Maria won’t be happy when she smells wine on your breath #Corrie”.
Coronation Street's shock exits 2024
Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:
Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.
The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.
Paul Foreman will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.
After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite, portrayed by Peter Ash, was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.
Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.
Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.
Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.
Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.
The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.
Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.
Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.
It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.
Show stalwart Eileen Grimshaw is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour.
She’s had to leave the Street immediately after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.
Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
