Applications are open for those hoping to win the million-pound jackpot.

New episodes will be filmed later this year, while episodes from the previous series are slated to air soon.

Each contestant will tackle 15 questions in their quest to secure the top prize.

Helping along the way will be four lifelines of 50/50, Phone a Friend, Ask the Audience and Ask the Host.

Originally presented by Chris Tarrant, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? first aired on ITV between 1998 to 2014.

The show returned in 2018 to mark its 20th anniversary, with its first million-pound winner in 14 years being crowned in 2020.

History and politics teacher Donald Fear from Telford, Shropshire, became the sixth person overall to win one million pounds on the show.

Donald answered 15 questions correctly with three of his lifelines still intact.

News of the show’s return comes after viewers were left stumped by a particularly tricky question.

In the episode, a repeat from 2021, contestant Glen Bunn already secured £32,000 when faced with a question about the Oscars.

It asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?”

Glen’s options were G, K, M and W, although he thought Kiera Knightley and Nicole Kidman may have been past winners.

After his Phone a Friend couldn’t help, Glen had to make a guess and went with G, which turned out to be correct.

Things worked out well, as he ended the night by taking home £125,000.

One viewer raged: “Worst question I have ever heard on a TV quiz show. So glad he guessed the correct answer.”

Meanwhile, another episode saw host Jeremy floored by one contestant’s celebrity Phone a Friend.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? airs on ITV1 with previous episodes available to stream on ITVX.
