FANS of a particular sleuthing cartoon dog will be delighted to hear there is a chance they will get to experience a whole new series of his antics.

Scooby Doo has been winning over the hearts of children and adults alike since the Saturday morning cartoon started airing 55 years ago.

Now Netflix may fire up the Mystery Machine again as they look to commission a live-action TV show based on the original animated series.

Bosses from the streamer are currently reading through a script for the proposed project, and if they like what they see, the Scooby gang will be back in business.

Hollywood Reporter reached out to Netflix reps, producers from Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, but they declined to comment as a deal has not yet formally closed.

Audiences first saw Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and his furry friend team up to solve mysteries and unmask criminal schemes in 1969.

It soon exploded into a global franchise worth billions of dollars, going on to inspire live-action films starring Noughties pin-up couple Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Episodes of the cartoon followed the fab five as they constantly ended up stranded by spooky mansions, abandoned lighthouses or disused funfairs.

While threats to the gang always initially seemed to be supernatural, the suspicious kids would eventually discover the phantoms were actually aged villains attempting to guard stolen loot.

The baddies were frequently responsible for robbing banks, stealing artifacts, or creating counterfeit money.

Once exposed by the Scooby gang they would be carted off to jail, indignantly yelling: “I would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for those meddling kids!”

If Netflix agrees to the reboot, it is expected to follow storylines from the original series.

Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg and Greg Berlanti would all be involved in the project as writers or executive producers.
