A TECHNICAL issue took Sara Cox’s evening radio show off air.

Sara, 49, has presented BBC Radio 2’s drivetime show on Mondays to Fridays since 2019.

Sara’s first regular BBC Radio 2 show was in 2013

She previously helmed the Radio 1 Breakfast Show for three years, from 2000 to 2003.

Fans tuning in to Sara’s show on Thursday (April 25th) had their experience interrupted by a sound issue.

A listener wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “A sound issue gradually worsened taking Sara Cox’s BBC R2 show off air for a short time, just before 5pm.

“Sounded as though the emergency tape was triggered after a period of silence. 5pm news was delayed slightly.

“Normal service resumed post-news.”

The show was impacted for about two minutes, first with static noise and then silence until the regular sound returned.

Sara acknowledged the technical disturbance during the broadcast, apologising and reassuring listeners not to panic.

Earlier this year, BBC Radio 2 lost a veteran and well respected DJ in Steve Wright, who died aged 69.

Veteran radio personality Steve presented on BBC Radio 2 for 23 years, as well as having 12 years on BBC Radio 1.

It was Sara who broke the news live on air while presenting her afternoon radio programme.

At the time, Sara paid an emotional tribute to her friend and colleague.

She said: “It feels like, to some extent, that we’ve had a family bereavement because we really have lost one of ours.”
