EASTENDERS viewers have claimed that their ‘heads are wrecked’ over a staggering soap fact, which left them fuming ‘I didn’t need to know that!’
The beloved long-running soap has been a staple on British screens since 1985 – but fans have been left gobsmacked by a recent revelation about one of the much-loved residents.
Last month on Eastenders, viewers witnessed soap alum Ben Mitchell, played by Max Bowden, arrested for credit card fraud from his time in America last year.
At first he tried to flee with his daughter Lexi, but was arrested outside the pub and sent to jail, where he was refused bail and extradited to the States.
Ben’s husband, Callum Highway (Tony Clay), mum, Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and dad, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), were left shattered after they learned why he had been arrested.
But things went from bad to worse in Thursday’s instalment (April 11) of the soap.
During the episode, Ben phoned his dad, Phil, from the US to tell him he had been sentenced to six years behind bars.
Phil then informed Kathy, who was heartbroken by the news and quickly scurried to the pub to tell Billy Mitchell(Perry Fenwick) and Jay Brown(Jamie Borthwick).
During the episode, viewers of the BBC soap realised a significant fact that left plenty of them dumbfounded.
On social media, fans pointed out that when Ben gets released in 2030, his mum, Kathy, will be 80 years old.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user tweeted: “Do you want your heads wrecked?”
They added: “I’ve just deeped that Kathy will be EIGHTY YEARS OLD by the time Ben gets out of prison. 80! Wtf man?”
A second viewer responded: “And she will still look amazing,” as a third penned, “Wow, I didn’t need to know that.”
“Why would you say this?” wrote another.
As a fifth chimed: “Oh my God!”
Currently, Kathy is 74 on Eastenders, but fans will be shocked to discover that actress Gillian is actually 68 in real life.
Gillian first stepped onto screens as Kathy – who has had a rather eventful time in Walford – in 1985 and quickly became a favourite and staple on the soap.
From her shaky relationship with Phil Mitchell to her returning to Walford after everyone thought she was dead following a car crash.
For years, her storylines have left BBC soap viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more.
