EASTENDERS fans have fumed over a ‘stupid and selfish’ character – swiping ‘do bosses want us to hate her?’
The BBC soap is focusing in on a number of Walford residents at the moment, including the members of The Six, Jay Brown, Yolande Trueman and Whitney Dean.
Whitney Dean brought troubled teen Britney back to Walford with her[/caption]Pregnant Whitney returned to Walford after a trip to see Bianca Jackson in Milton Keynes with troubled teen Britney in her care.
Whitney had bonded with the teen during her stay and decided she wanted to give her a stable home away from her addict mother.
However, Whitney’s partner Zack Hudson had no idea that she paid Britney’s mother thousands to take her daughter off her hands and buy her silence, believing Whitney went through the correct foster care procedures.
But in last night’s episode, the truth finally started to come out, after an upset Britney told Zack Whitney had “stole” her.
Britney had had a difficult day, having been bullied by some girls from her new school, only for Whitney to interfere and threaten the bully despite Britney and Zack telling her not to.
The school girl immediately told Britney what Whitney had done, making her situation worse, and so she decided to speak out once back at the flat with Zack.
Meanwhile, Lauren Branning – who knows the truth about what Whitney has done – encouraged her to tell Zack the truth, but her words fell on deaf ears.
The storyline is building towards Whitney’s departure, as actress Shona McGarty quit EastEnders after 16 years in the role.
But EastEnders fans are disappointed by the exit storyline, as they feel the show’s writers are trying to make her unlikable before she goes.
Taking to X – formerly Twitter – one wrote: “Is #EastEnders actively trying to make us hate Whitney so we didn’t mind as much when she’s written off the show?”
A second added: “Can’t wait to see the back of whitney . Never thought I’d say that #eastenders.”
Another replied: “I’m glad someone agrees with me.”
A fourth tweeted: “Whitney is so stupid and selfish. Thank goodness she’s leaving soon.”
Meanwhile a fellow EastEnders fan shared: “used to love whitney, but if this is how they want her character to be i’m glad she’s leaving.”
EastEnders airs on BBC One and is available on BBC iPlayer.
