CHANNEL 4 has announced an ‘incredibly exciting’ new game show with a beloved comedian at the helm.

Double The Money sees ordinary people challenged to go out in the world and double their money while racing to win a hefty cash sum.

The Great British Bake Off is also a beloved show for Channel 4[/caption]

Pairs of contestants unite on day one where they receive a modest starting pot of money.

From the point they get the cash, the clock starts and the mission becomes clear: either double the money within the next four hours or face elimination from the game.

While the players have complete freedom in spending the starting pot, they must devise smart strategies and innovative ideas to turn their initial sum into a fortune.

In this show, lightning doesn’t quite strike twice as contestants are eliminated if they try using the same idea more than once.

As the competition progresses, each round sees the cash target the teams must achieve increase, as does the time they have to do so.

By the final round, weeks later, the remaining duo who make the most money in the alloted time receive a large cash prize to add to their final pot.

Sue Perkins, known for the comedy double act Mel and Sue and formerly co-hosting The Great British Bake Off, will take the reins as host for Double The Money.

Sue’s collaboration with Channel 4 follows her appearance on the 16th series of Taskmaster, which aired between September to November 2023.

She competed alongside Julian Clary, Lucy Beaumont, Sam Campbell and Susan Wokoma.

Despite a valiant effort, Sue finished the series in fourth place overall.

Head of Daytime & Features at Channel 4, Jo Street said: “This is an incredibly exciting format that breaks the mould of traditional game shows.

“By taking the competition out of the shiny TV studio and immersing the contestants in the real world, we’re sure to see some truly creative ways of making money as our pairs battle it out for the top cash prize.”
