But viewers were up in arms, claiming Sydnie’s performing background has given her an unfair advantage over less experienced acts.
One wrote on X: “No way. She’s either got an album out already or has been signed somewhere. Sydnie is pro already I reckon.”
Another posted: “Why did Sydnie get a Golden Buzzer. She’s a professional for goodness sake.”
However, others felt she was worthy of the honour.
One emotional fan said: “I cried through her amazing performance. Wow…and she even converted Simon! She’s got the charm to go with that spectacular voice. Good for her. Sydnie Christmas is a star.”
A second posted: “Sydnie Christmas….take a chuffin bow. WOW.”
Another shared: “Sydnie was so amazing and her voice was so incredible and beautiful.”
Sydnie has starred in Starlight Express in Bochum, Germany, and Lazarus at London’s King’s Cross Theatre.
She shared snaps of her performing a track from Lazarus on the BBC in 2016 while appearing on The Andrew Marr Show.
Posting a video of her performing on stage, Sydnie wrote: “Moments like this I count my lucky stars.”
She also played Rizzo in Grease while singing on a cruise trip and regularly shares throwback snaps of her time on stage.
“There are two great days in a person’s life – the day we are born and the day we discover why. …
“Never forget what you came here to do. Love what you choose, as every choice is yours.”
In tonight’s launch show as the crowds went wild for Sydnie, Amanda Holden was heard saying “it’s too early” as the crowd chanted Sydnie’s name.
The judge told Sydnie: “That was the best version of it that I’ve heard heard in my mind, so I’m going to do this…”
In a surprise move, Amanda hit the golden buzzer – and sent Sydnie through to the semi-finals.
Overwhelmed Sydnie was in tears as she stared up at the roaring audience.
Her adoring grandmothers watching from the Palladium jumped up and down as they took in the news.
Sydnie was heard shouting “let’s have it”, which appears to be her chosen catchphrase.
She told the crowd: “Thanks so much. Thanks for screaming for me.”
The performer is now one step closer to performing for the King at the Royal Variety Show.
