One character in particular that sprung to mind is Amber Kalirai, Dev Alahan’s daughter.
Amber arrived in Weatherfield in 2005 and stayed until 2009, but returned two years later after being kicked out of uni and was a lot more rebellious.
Amber regularly clashed with stepmother Sunita, and she left the street again in 2012.
Writing on a Reddit fan forum, one Coronation Street fan shared: “Dev’s daughter Amber hasn’t been seen or mentioned in over a decade. Any other current characters have mystery children?”
Another replied: “You say that like it’s a bad thing. I’m glad Amber is gone.”
The original writer responded: “yeah, I don’t really miss her. It’s just weird she’s never mentioned and a bit of a shame that Asha never knew her sister.”
Another character to come up was Lawrence Cunningham, the long lost son of Ken Barlow.
The pair met in 2010 but things didn’t go to plan as Ken was horrified to learn of Lawrence’s views on his son James being gay.
He threw him out and disowned him, severing all contact with Lawrence – who was played by William Roach’s real-life son Linus.
One fan wrote on the Reddit forum: “Ken’s firstborn long lost son Lawrence. It was a bit of a gimmick as he was played by Bill Roache’s real life son Linus (King Ecbert from Vikings) but still.”
Another replied: “And Lawrence’s son James. I can’t remember if he was Bill Roache’s son or grandson…. but yeah. The endless incarnations of Ken Barlow/Bill Roache.”
Fans also felt a number of soap siblings had been forgotten, with one writing: “Leanne’s brother, Greg Kelly.”
Another replied: “I was surprised when Sally never brought him up when she went to visit Yasmeen in prison.”
BAD BIG BROTHER
Greg appeared from 1998 to 1999 and was a baddie, abusing Sally Webster and attempting to scam Mike Baldwin.
Meanwhile another wrote on the discussion: “Carl Webster. Kevin has never met him as it was said Kevin and Bill hadn’t seen each other in 10 years, so he didn’t see him in Germany when Bill was raising him.
“He seems to have been erased from existence ever since. Debbie Webster was rarely mentioned before her return, but at least she was mentioned, Carl wasn’t.
“Kevin mentioned that it being hard to find Carl when Bill had a heart attack. But it was one mention and nothing more. So it was likely just something the writer snuck in.
WEAVE A WEB-STER
“They could reintroduce him to boost up the Websters. I think the Websters have really gone down recently, Sophie and Rosie left meaning Sally has lost her connection to that family. Despite Debbie returning, she has no scenes with Kevin fir some reason.
Introduce Carl, give him a husband (Paul is gonna die, we need a happy lgbt couple), and a kid. Build the Websters back up.”
