AN EastEnders fan has ripped into the soap after they scrapped one of the most realistic elements from the show.
The upset viewers noticed the big change when trawling through classic episodes of the BBC soap on the iPlayer.
EastEnders fans have noticed an element from classic episodes which has gone missing[/caption] Popular chart hits were often used in the background for scenes in the pub and cafe[/caption]Currently, hardcore soap fans can access every episode of EastEnders from 2008 though to 2012 on the streaming service with the plan to add the following years on a monthly basis until all episode of the past 16 years are available.
As well as the character overhauls, set re-designs and some truly epic storylines, fans have also begun to pick up on other major discrepancies from the programme.
One eagle-eyed viewers was left raging after the soap appeared to stop using current music in the background of their scenes.
During episodes set in the early 2010’s, EastEnders regulalrly used current chart bops in the background of scenes in the Queen Vic, the cafe, on the Market, in the R&R nightclub and at special gathering.
Top artists including Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, JLS, Cheryl and Tulisa could all be heard in the episodes with their latest top ten hits.
It has not further added to the feel of nostalgia of viewers dipping back into watching classic episode of the programme.
It sparked discussion among fans who were quick to point out that up to date music had all but vanished from the programme.
One EastEnders superfan took to X – formerly Twitter – to pen: “The music playing in the background in old EE was one of the most realistic aspects.
“Popular songs from that time period were played in the cafe, vic, parties etc.
“In the current 2012 episodes I’m watching, there’s a lot of Rihanna, Cheryl and Ellie Goulding. I really miss that.”
Theorising on why this may be, the fan continued: “I wonder if it’s due to copyright issues, because nowadays we never hear any Dua Lipa or popular songs from today playing in the cafe or Peggy’s. What happened?”
Then they followed up to add: “Please tell me I’m not alone.”
Another fan echoed the statement as they wrote: “They had some absolute bangers playing on a constant loop in the 2011/2012 episodes it made everyone feel so much more real.”
A third then chimed in to add: “When I watched the 2008-2010 repeats I heard so many Katy Perry songs, you are so right about this.”
Fans have begged for the 2012 element to come back[/caption]Whilst another insisted the same could be said for even older episodes from the 90s, writing: “It’s been one of my favourite aspects of watching classic EastEnders on Drama- the music!! The incredible Brit-Pop of the late 90’s with the Spice Girls, All Saints, Billie, Five… it’s so transportive!!”
In recent years, EastEnders fans have been left in hysterics after the soap appeared to opt to use the Stefflon Don track Senseless anytime a modern song is required.
Countless videos of the soap have gone viral when the rapper’s summer track has been used during scenes with teens and the younger cast.
