This meant activist and writer Katie Piper, 40, was unable to host last weekend’s episodes of Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show.

Fellow presenter Charlotte Hawkins, therefore, replaced her on the sofa.

However, an adverse reaction to the operation has meant Katie will not be well enough to return this week.

As a result, Charlotte, 49, will be standing in for the star once again.

A source told The Mirror: “Katie had quite a bad reaction to this operation, which has left her feeling really poorly.

“Much as she’d love to be back on the sofa on Saturday, at the moment it’s just not realistic and she acknowledges this.

“She is concentrating on her recovery so that she can be back to her best as soon as possible.

ITV have been really understanding and have said to her that she should take all the time she needs before coming back.”

A spokesperson for Katie, speaking to The Mirror, said: “Katie’s recovery from an eye operation has taken a little longer than expected so sadly she won’t be hosting her Breakfast Show again this week.

“However, she looks forward to returning for the final episodes of the run next weekend.”

Meanwhile, Katie took to Instagram to reassure her followers after pulling out of the show last week.

She wrote: “All is well… I hope after some rest I’ll be back in the hot seat next weekend.”

Several celeb pals soon wrote messages of support, with Carol Vorderman writing: “Take care wonderful lady. You come first. Telly is just telly. Sending huge loves and respect.”

While Good Morning Britain star Charlotte penned: “that she was “sending lots of love”

In 2008, the presenter and model was left with permanent scarring and serious injuries following an acid attack.

Following the attack, Katie had hundreds of surgeries to repair damage to her face and eyesight,

She was just 24 years of age at the time of the incident.

Later, Katie went on to establish the Katie Piper Foundation to support people living with burns and scars.

In the years since her attack, she has appeared in the likes of Strictly Come Dancing and Loose Women.

Katie Piper’s Breakfast Show airs every Saturday and Sunday morning on ITV at 8:25am.
