CHANNEL 4 has axed a popular news programme after three series on air – as its host revealed bosses ‘have no money’.
Execs at the broadcaster have binned off The Andrew Neil Show despite being a hit.
The series was fronted by former BBC star Andrew, 75, and covered all of the week’s political news and events.
Confirming the show isn’t returning, the presenter told BBC Radio 4: “I did three seasons with Channel 4.
“It worked well, they liked it, it did well but like a lot of media organisations these days, they said to me quite bluntly, ‘we’ve got no money. We haven’t got any money’.”
The show aired on Sunday evenings as Andrew was joined by a panel of guests including ministers and politicians.
It was previously hoped Channel 4 would recommission the show for 2024 after confirming it had placed the show on ice amid money woes.
When his show was announced, Andrew said he was ‘delighted’ to join the station.
He said: “Sunday night is a pivotal point in the political week – we can sweep up what’s happened in the previous week, mop up what’s been in the Sunday papers and talkshows and throw forward to the upcoming week.”
He worked for the BBC for 25 years until 2020, fronting various programmes, including Sunday Politics and This Week on BBC One and Daily Politics, Politics Live and The Andrew Neil Show on BBC Two.
The broadcaster left to be the face and chairman of 24-hour TV channel, GB News.
Neil resigned as chairman and lead presenter in September 2021, just three months after its launch.
