BBC Breakfast star Charlie Stayt went missing from the programme today as part of a hosting shake-up which saw him replaced by a familiar face.
His absence from the show comes the same week as his and wife Anne’s financial problems were revealed by The Sun.
Roger Johnson co-hosted with Naga Munchetty in place of Charlie Stayt this morning[/caption]Charlie usually hosts the show every Thursday through Saturday with Naga Munchetty but he was nowhere to be found on the Beeb’s morning offering on Friday.
Instead, regular BBC star Roger Johnson stepped in to sit alongside Naga on the programme.
Charlie’s absence from the show wasn’t explained although it is likely he is either travelling back, or still in Normandy, France where he broadcast live from yesterday as part of a special programme to commemorate 80 years of D-Day.
61-year-old Charlie put his bankruptcy fears aside as he hosted the special broadcast on-location yesterday.
Charlie’s absence from the Salford studio meant that Naga Munchetty was forced to host alone in a rare move.
Fans will recognise stand-in host Roger as he has previously made countless appearances on BBC Breakfast before.
He often fronts the show on Sundays when the programme utilises guest hosts and has worked alongside many of the regular faces of the show.
But it seemed that one fan in particular was left overtly impressed by his hosting stint as they called on him to take over hosting duties on the show full-time.
Slamming Charlie and praising Roger, the fan said: “Can we please have Roger everyday? He’s head and shoulders better than Jon or Charlie the hair.
“No sputteringly stupid questions like Jon or blank vacant imbecilic stare like Charlie. Roger and Ben Thompson should be the two anchors.
“Naga and Sally deserve better!”
Just days ago, The Sun exclusively told how Charlie’s firm Stayt Limited was £6,409 in the red in accounts filed in December and covering to the end of March 2023.
Charlie and his wife, who have two children, bought their four-bedroom home in Twickenham, South West London, for £800,000 in 2002, and it is now worth up to £2.3million.
