CORONATION Street fans have been left fearing for another legendary character after Gail’s shock exit news.
Bosses on the ITV soap shocked fans when they announced how the character would leave the cobbles after 50 years.
She’s played by Helen Worth, who will start to film her exit scenes from next month.
But now Coronation Street fans have been left fearing Audrey Roberts will leave Weatherfield too.
The beloved character, who is played by Sue Nicholls, is Gail Platt’s mother on the show.
Writing on social media, one fan said: “I really hope Audrey doesn’t leave too but how weird is it that Gail will be going before Audrey!”
A second posted: “hat happens? Please don’t kill her off! But I can’t see her leaving Audrey #Honestly no more Gail and Audrey. No more Gail despairing of her mam…”
“Omg! Wonder what they will do with Audrey and if she will consider leaving too? Really hope she gets an explosive story line rather than hopping in a black cab all the way to Thailand,” said a third.
While a fourth commented: “I don’t think we’ll see Audrey for much longer now.”
However, fans don’t need to worry as The Sun previously revealed how Sue, 80, signed a new contract with Corrie bosses, securing her future on the soap.
Confirming her exit in an emotional statement, Helen said: “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world.
“I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.
“I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.
“The past 50 years have flown by and I don’t think the fact that I am leaving has quite sunk in yet.”

One of Gail’s multiple marriages saw her wed Richard Hillman, who turned out to be a serial killer.
At the climax of the storyline, 19 million fans tuned in to watch Hillman drive his wife and her family into a canal.
Scrapping on The Street
Gail has proved over the years she can’t resist a good scrap.
Her most memorable bust-up saw her attack Eileen Grimshaw on the cobbles in 2004 while in her dressing gown.
