GAIL Platt has been a mainstay on Coronation Street for 50 years but in a shock move her stint will come to an end this year.
Actress Helen Worth has sent shockwaves through the nation by announcing she is quitting the show and will bow out in an emotional storyline later this year.
The major storyline will begin filming imminently and it will mean the end for Gail’s life on the cobbles.
But how will she leave and will she die? Here are all the theories about her exit.
A new life in Thailand
Will Gail get a happy ending and leave for a new life in Thailand?[/caption]One of the more surprising storylines of late for Gail has been her frequent trips to Thailand.
She’s been spending months at a time in the tropical paradise, having visited and loved it almost a decade ago.
Fortunately the backpacker vibing, ultra relaxed Gail didn’t last long and she’s back to being the Gail viewers know and love – but she could decide she needs to retire to Thailand permanently.
Tragic death
Let’s face it, all the hints of Gail’s emotional goodbye aren’t sign posting towards her waving goodbye on the QE2 for a life on the high seas.
There’s an overwhelming fear of dread coming that Gail Platt will take her last breath later this year in a heartbreaking storyline.
Corrie has done some incredible and devastating death storylines over the years from Hayley Cropper to Alma Baldwin.
Jack and Vera Duckworth both got emotional goodbyes and Gail will be no different.
And if she does die on screen, you can bet it’s going to go down in Corrie history.
Reunion with Martin Platt
He’s the one that got away – and survived.
While Gail has spent most of her half century on the cobbles marrying and then burying husbands, one of them managed to escape.
Brian Tilsley (husband one and two) was stabbed, Richard Hillman drowned trying to kill her and her family, Joe McIntyre drowned trying to fake his own death and Michael Rodwell dropped dead of a heart attack caused by Pat Phelan.
Only Martin Platt escaped – and that was because he cheated on her and she chucked him out.
But what if Martin was the one who got away and Gail goes to get him back?
It could be a touching reunion for the pair before they sail away for a new life away from Weatherfield…
Husband number six
Life on the cobbles just doesn’t seem right without Gail lining victim, sorry husband number six.
So what better time than now for her to meet a new man and finally find true happiness with someone who won’t die on her.
Or she could finally actually become a killer and bury another husband?
