JOEY Essex was forced to divulge personal details ahead of entering Love Island – including if he’s ever had any sexually transmitted infections.
In line with the ITV series rules, medics require islanders to fill out a strict health questionnaire in order to provide adequate duty of care while on the show – with Joey being no exception.
Joey had to undergo a gruelling vetting process to be cleared to enter Love Island[/caption] Joey had to tell all about his medical history – including any STIs he may have had[/caption]Among the questions, Love Island stars – including Joey – are asked about their medications, any past illegal drug use, and any issues with their mental health.
They’re also quizzed if they’ve ever used muscle-building steroids, had any eating disorders, self-harmed or had suicidal ideation.
Islanders are also asked if they’ve had any sexually transmitted infections or issues with cold sores in case they were to get intimate with any of their co-stars.
They need to swear that, to the best of their knowledge, they currently do not have any STIs or other infections.
All questions are asked to ensure the islanders are safe and secure, and looked after to the best of the production team’s abilities.
On top of the health questionnaire, Joey and the islanders had to divulge if they had a criminal record, and if so, why they were in trouble with the law.
The Sun has reached out to Joey and Love Island for comment.
Joey entered the villa on Monday night as the first bombshell of the series, in the show’s biggest twist ever.
The 33-year-old star – who previously looked for love on Celebs Go Dating – told The Sun ahead of going in he was eager to find The One, and had asked bosses to send him in.
He also wants to prove he was no longer the dim-witted boy the world knew him as now he’s grown up.
“I’ve gone from a boy to a man and I’m proud of the man I’ve become,” he told us in an exclusive interview.
“It was all so fun and I enjoyed myself but I’m a grown up version of my former self and I’m proud of the journey that I’ve been on.”
Before entering the villa, Joey has had a number of high profile relationships– including with Sam Faiers during his time on Towie, and Stephanie Pratt after Celebs Go Dating in 2016.
“I fall in love really quickly but I’m going to try and pace myself and make time to get to know everyone individually,” he told us.
“In a relationship I’m very caring, loving, loyal, thoughtful and very PDA. I have lots of energy so I like to have fun and go on holidays and take someone for nice dinners.
“I’ve got my life together and don’t want for anything, all I want is for someone to love me and I can take care of everything else.”
What will Joey Essex bring to Love Island?
By Beth Allcock, Showbiz and TV reporter
JOEY Essex left Love Island fans gobsmacked after his arrival in the Love Island villa – but what can we expect from the sizzling bombshell?
The former TOWIE star is Love Island’s first-ever celebrity contestant and has certainly brought the drama in the first episode.
Yet the reality TV stalwart, 33, who has featured on everything from Dancing On Ice to Celebs Go Dating, also showcased a hot new look.
He strolled into the villa with his fresh close-cut hairstyle and ripped abs on full display as he declared himself the ‘King of Essex’ – and it’s this cheeky chap attitude fans can certainly expect in the Mallorca villa.
Joey’s likely to be at the heart of the action in the villa, with his wicked sense of humour and Essex charm bound to shake up the partnerships of his co-stars.
His pal and former Love Island All Stars contestant Georgia Harrison, 29, confirms he’ll liven up proceedings, admitting he’ll be “so jokes.”
Yet he’s no stranger to juggling the attention of a slew of stunning females – so he’ll likely fit right in to Love Island life.
On Celebs Go Dating in 2021 Joey threw the series into chaos as he dating two women at the same time.
He previously exclusively told us he’s “really picky” when it comes to finding the right girl – so he might be grafting hard and involved in a few coupling up switch-ups.
Meanwhile, he insisted he can also “kick back” and “relax” when it comes to female attention – so some of the sexy stars might feel snubbed.
He told us: “I’m quite held back. I don’t just let girls come to me like that, do you know what I mean?
“I can’t say the right words in a nice way, but basically what I’m I’m trying to say is I just don’t get with every girl, basically!”
He added: “People are realising that I’m more picky than normal. There’ll be one little thing that I won’t like and then I’ll just be completely turned off.
“Not put off, but I’ll just know she ain’t for me.”
Love Island continues on ITV2.
Maya Jama welcomed the first 12 contestants into the Mallorca villa on Monday night’s show, coupling up the stars based on their ‘boyfriend/girlfriend material’ ranking.
This immediately ruffled feathers as some felt they were being too harshly judge – with Samantha Kenny clashing with Sam Taylor over her being placed last.
Entering the villa, Joey has now got to steal another girl from another couple in order to remain in the villa.
While everyone is coupled up, there are currently no relationships formed in the villa.
However, Ayo Odukoya was seen getting close to Mimii Ngulube, while Ronnie Vint was seen hedging his bets with both Samantha and Jess White.
