What is Queenie about?
Queenie is described as a razor-sharp, utterly honest, blisteringly funny and achingly yet beautifully relatable series, full of as much heart and soul as the lady herself.
Queenie Jenkins is a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman.
She works in South London as a journalist, and the show is dubbed “the black Bridget Jones” by the original book’s author Candice Carty-Williams.
The comedy follows her life as a young Black woman as she navigates the trials and tribulations of life.
The show’s creators say it’s full of “as much heart and soul as the lady herself”.
After a messy breakup from her long-term boyfriend Tom, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places and begins to realise she has to face the past head-on before she can rebuild.
As well as the show’s funnier moments, Queenie doesn’t shy away from addressing issues such as racism, feeling out of place and mental health.
Where was Queenie filmed?
Queenie is set in Brixton in South London.
As well as much of the filming taking place there, Channel 4 also held a launch event for the show at event venue Pop Brixton.
Stars from the show gathered at the launch, which also included the unveiling of a mural of the show’s title character on the side of a building.
