CORONATION Street legend Alison King has broken her silence on relationship rumours surrounding her character Carla Connor.
At the turn of the new year, ITV viewers saw how Carla was left broken as she accepted that her marriage to Peter Barlow had ran its course.
The character had been seemingly getting close to Lisa Swain[/caption]As he fled Weatherfield, Carla was left single for the first time in years and has so far stopped short of looking for love elsewhere on the cobbles.
However, in recent weeks, romance appears to have been placed on the cards for Carla with a rather unlikely character.
Speculation has been rife that Carla could find herself falling for DS Lisa Swain.
Swain has worked closely with Carla amid Roy Cropper’s imprisonment for Lauren Bolton’s murder and the two began to share more personal and tender moments together as the case against Roy began to collapse.
Carla even found herself consoling Swain as she broke down in floods of tears over her dead ex and her tearaway daughter in a rare personal scene.
However, Alison has seemingly shut down the likelihood of a new romance after admitting that Carla does not “have her eye on anyone”.
Speaking about the potentials of being thrown into love again, she said: “No I don’t think she’s ready for another relationship at all and she’s definitely not got her eye on anybody.
“I don’t think she’s thought twice about it. I think it’s the last thing on her mind.”
Fans had predicted that the pair would embark on a surprise romance and whilst it hasn’t totally been ruled out, Alison’s confession proves it is less likely than originally thought.
Furthermore, Alison admitted she still relished playing Carla after all the years she has had on the Street and exploring all the various sides to her personality.
The star said: “She’s got so many sides to her and I think she tries to grow as a person but ultimately her core is fiery and fearless.
“She is vulnerable, she can be frightened of things but she attacks things face on which ultimately gives me brilliant storylines because she either gets into trouble or she does the right thing.
“The viewers understand that she’s going to go off the rails, but she’ll come back again.
“It’s just been such a lovely thing to be able to get to play, all those vulnerable situations with the psychosis, through her addiction and the grief she’s had to deal with, but to be able to show those from a strong woman’s perspective has been brilliant.”
