SHE may have received hundreds of Ofcom complaints for her racy Britain’s Got Talent frocks, but Amanda Holden is as keen as ever to stick to her ‘no holden back’ motto.
Last night, the 53-year-old presenter wore her sexiest look of the series so far, risking the wrath of yet more viewers (and the adulation of others) with a VERY clingy wet-look dress.
Amanda’s wet-look dress went down a treat last night[/caption] In June 2017, Amanda donned arguably her most risqué frock of all time[/caption] The plunging sheer, black Julien Macdonald gown cost around £11,000[/caption]Over the years, Amanda has remained defiant towards any kind of backlash about her risky frocks, claiming Britain’s Got Talent is “the perfect opportunity to take risks”.
She previously told The Sun her outfits are so famously controversial they’re now monitored before she steps on-stage.
“There’s now a whole body of people that knock on my door and come and stare at my chest before we go on air,” she explained.
“There’s a t*t committee. There are so many brilliant people, they come down, knock on the door and there’s the lady who’s the producer who said, ‘Mandy, it looks great’.”
Here we take a look back at Amanda’s most complained about BGT outfits – including one plunging gown which attracted 633 calls to the regulator.
633 complaints
In June 2017, Amanda donned arguably her most risqué frock of all time – and boy did it make an impression.
The plunging sheer black Julien Macdonald gown – worth £11,250 – received 633 Ofcom complaints, making it the most complained about TV moment of that year.
Some viewers branded the backless gown “unsuitable” for the show, which airs before the watershed.
Amanda said afterwards: “That dress was hysterical – it was Julien Macdonald. I had bits of fish wire underneath my breasts trying to hold that together… It’s all quite laughable, but all everyone seems to talk about.
“It’s been called another national crisis – but, oh no, I will not be covered up.”
235 complaints
Amanda hit back at the criticism[/caption]In September 2020, Amanda wore a navy Celia Kritharioti off-the-shoulder gown with a V-neckline and daring thigh-high split.
But some fans were convinced they could see her nipples poking out the top of her dress.
The dress prompted 235 Ofcom complaints and a social media backlash, with one viewer writing: “You looked ok but more like a porn star than a Sat night family show judge, this should go to an after-9pm show.”
Amanda hit back at the criticism, commenting: “Mmmm really?! Who has nipples this close to their cleavage?!
“FYI. A boned corset dented the girls all night,” which she followed up with two fried egg emojis.
136 complaints
During a semi-final episode of BGT in October 2020, Amanda wore an eye-catching black and burgundy gown by designer Suzanne Neville.
The dress featured a thigh-high split and a sheer corset top in black lace, with one long sleeve and exaggerated shoulder and neck detail.
The episode received 896 Ofcom complaints, however Amanda later clarified that only 136 of those were about her dress specifically.

Nine complaints
In May 2019, Amanda turned heads in a stunning dress by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran[/caption]In May 2019, Amanda turned heads in a stunning dress by Lebanese designer Nicolas Jebran.
But its revealing nature proved too much for some viewers – nine of which complained to Ofsted.
One side of the frock was completely sheer, with a spiderweb design covering Amanda’s boob, while the other was white silk decorated with colourful embroidered flowers.
Amanda saw the funny side, tweeting that a seemingly strategically placed water bottle on the table in front of her acted as a nipple cover.
34 complaints
The night after she wore her Nicolas Jebran gown, Amanda sparked more fury with a glamorous monochrome dress by Lebanese designer Saiid Kobeisy.
The plunging design showed off her cleavage, and the regulator reported the dress received 34 complaints.
But Amanda laughed off the controversy, telling The Sun: “My t*ts seem to become the show’s biggest talking point every year.”
90 complaints
One of the outfits worn by Amanda in 2016, when viewers submitted 90 complaints[/caption]In 2016, outfits worn by Amanda and her fellow BGT judge Alesha Dixon received 90 fashion-related complaints to Ofcom in total.
Amanda wore a particularly daring gown in May that year, consisting of a body with a keyhole slit revealing her cleavage, and a sheer skirt.
And the yellow plunging dress she wore for the second live semi-final, along with the revealing jumpsuit worn by Alesha, sparked 19 complaints alone.
But Ofcom decided against warrant launching a full investigation, claiming the women’s wardrobe choices had not breached the UK broadcasting code.
The organisation said Amanda’s choice of clothing “would not have exceeded most viewers’ expectations”.
“In our view, the dresses appropriately covered the judges and they were not portrayed in a sexualised way,” a spokesman said.
You know what they say Amanda… if you’ve got it, flaunt it!
