LORRAINE Stanley’s first role since she was axed from EastEnders has been revealed.
The 47-year-old’s EastEnders character Karen Taylor was last seen in Walford in February after it was confirmed last year she was to be written out.
But it won’t be long until fans see actress Lorraine back in action.
She has started filming for ‘gritty’ British movie Departures, in which she plays Janet – the mother of main character Benji.
The film tells Benji’s story as he returns to Amsterdam after having an affair with a married man there the year before.
Speakng of her new role, Lorraine said: “This film is an LGBTQ project about grief and loss of letting go of a toxic relationship.
“I was honoured to be offered the part of Janet, Benji’s mum, as I’ve worked with Lloyd Eyre-Morgan [co-director with Neil Ely] before and love his style of work.
“As you’ll see in the film, Janet has had a hard past and is trying to support her son throughout his journey in the best way she can – although she has old school mentality and can be very brash!”
Lorraine gave fans the first look at her new character last week with a sneak peek on Instagram.
Also starring in the movie is former Hollyoaks actor David Tag, and he’ll be playing Benji’s former love interest Luke.
David, 39, is best known for playing Sylver McQueen in the Channel 4 soap from 2018 until 2022.
Last year David revealed he’d turned down Celebs Go Dating as he feared it would damage his career.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “I was offered to do Celebs Go Dating before I was taken. Obviously.
“I was kind of busy with work, and then also I wasn’t sure if it might have been the best career move.”
But he’s not ruling out reality TV, and added: “I’ve had a couple of meetings with Dancing on Ice. That didn’t work out this year, but there’s still a potential for next year.”
