Having returned home from South Africa, he re-entered the dating scene and has now found a connection with someone – though they are keeping it private for the time being.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun ahead of his Misfits boxing debut against Mike Edwards, Jake said: “I’ve done a bit of dating and seen a couple of people. But to be honest with you, I’m seeing someone at the minute. We keep our life private, like our relationship private because there’s a lot of opinions involved, and I’m happy where I am at the minute, and she supports me.

“So we keep it nice and private. And then, yeah, maybe one day something will be shown but at the minute it is just purely boxing. I don’t go out drinking. I don’t go out partying. I’m purely myself and my dog.”

Jake is currently living and breathing boxing, training four times a day, as he prepares for his debut bout.

Though he doesn’t need any additional motivation, the reality star had a spring in his step on Sunday morning after watching Tyson Fury’s Undisputed showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.

Ukrainian Usyk won that fight on a split decision following a brutal ninth round in which he nearly forced a stoppage.

Reflecting on the bout, Jake said: “I woke up Sunday morning, and I was like ‘get me in that ring now’. I got the feel again. I got the buzz back.

“But yeah, it was. It was a good fight. I’m just so motivated. I mean, it’s crazy. My life is boxing. And I wake up, I look at videos of boxing technique. And then I go to bed watching boxing videos. So is it quite weird, to be honest you.”

The dangers of boxing were laid bare last week when Sherif Lawal tragically died in his first professional bout after getting knocked out in the fourth round.

Jake’s all too aware that stepping into the ring is not to be taken lightly.

He said: “I’ve seen it last week and, listen, boxing’s not a game, like you’re going into fight, you can’t shy away from anywhere. It’s just you and him, you and your opponent. That’s it. And that’s why I love boxing, and when I got the call up to go into Misfits, you’re kind of going out your comfort zone.

“I’ve never boxed. I’ve done a bit of training here and there, years ago. Then I did a lot of body building, and then I’ve gone back to boxing, and it’s completely different.

“I’m not allowed to lift any weights. I mean, I haven’t lifted any dumbbells for five weeks now. It’s weird. I’m wasting away. But like I said, boxing is is no game. My trainers, Sonny and Craig, they eat, breathe, sleep boxing. I’m in safe hands.”

Boxing isn’t the only new skill Jake’s trying his hand at.

SCREEN DREAM

He’s launched an acting career after being spotted at afilm premiere, landing roles alongside household names.

Earlier this month, he attended the premiere for Bermondsey Tales: Fall of the Roman Empire, a London gangster flick starring the likes of Maisie Smith, John Hannah and Linda Robson.

And this summer fans can watch him as DI Jacobs in Mr Hyde – an adaptation of the the gothic novel Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde – in which he acts alongside The Bill and Hollyoaks legend Adam Astill, who is cast in the lead role.

Then there’s the small matter of a script that’s just come his way for a new TV series featuring Ray Winstone.

It’s all pinch me stuff for the former water engineer.

He said: “It’s crazy, to be honest with you. When I got approached for the film, I thought the guy was kind of winding me up, saying, ‘Oh, he’s come off Love Island. Yeah, get him on there’, you know.

“But he’s been serious. The guy I met, he’s never watched Love Island, and he just seen me at a film premiere and said, ‘I like the look of you have you ever done acting and I was like ‘I’ve never done it, but I’d love to’.”

The pair hit it off last year and Jake was offered a role in Bermondsey tales, leaving him stunned.

He continued: “I’ve done it. And oh, my God! It was fantastic. The cast, the film is great.”

Unlike many of his fellow Love Island co-stars, Jake won’t be found downing shots at glitzy parties in the capital.

In fact, he’s not in contact with any of his All Stars alumni.

DOING IT MY WAY

Instead, he’s focused on forging a career doing things he’s passionate about rather than chasing the limelight.

He said: “You won’t see me at events in London because it’s not adding value to my life.

“I know that if I’m around good people that will push me, then that makes me become a better person.

“Love Island is obviously short term, because then there’s another Love Island in six months and there’s another one… so
you’ve got a really short space of time to really utilise what you learn.

It’s crazy, to be honest with you. When I got approached for the film, I thought the guy was kind of winding me up

“So if you do things like, say, I’ve gone into DJing, I know that’s like a lifetime thing, because I love my music. Pay me a pound, a hundred pounds, a thousand pounds, whatever, I’ll still be a DJ. Do you know what I mean? Because I love it so that’s the difference. I’ve gone into something that I I love.

“I don’t really speak to anyone from the show. I speak to a couple of lads from my first series but other than that, I don’t really speak to them.

“I say ‘hello’ here and there, but it’s not like I don’t meet up with them because I say I live my own life.

“I’m boxing, so when I’m boxing there’s no distractions. It purely is you wake up, you box, you go to sleep, you wake up, you box, you go to sleep, and that’s the life of a fighter.”

A date for the fight is yet to be announced, however, it’s clear Jake will be more than ready when the time comes.
