Sir Lindsay Hoyle, 66, helped Emmerdale to celebrate 10,000 episodes on the network.

The speaker of the House Of Commons previously promised to visit the Dales back in 2022 after he paid a visit to the cobbles.

Ahead of the special episode being broadcast, he crossed to the other side of the Pennines and toured the set of the long-running soap.

In 2022 he hosted a reception at Speaker’s House which celebrated over 100 years of continuing drama in the north of the UK.

At the time, he was gifted a pair of of ‘Emmerdale’ wellington boots along with an invite to use them on a visit to the village.

Both of the award-winning serial dramas have been mentioned more than 320 times during parliamentary debates as noted by Sir Lindsay Hoyle.

The speaker is a huge supporter of regional television production as he hailed the soaps as “an important part of the fabric of British society and the economic contribution they bring to the North”.

When he made his way onto the set, Sir Lindsay donned the wellies that were previously gifted to him as he met members of the cast and crew.

He was pictured posing with Charlotte Bellamy – who plays Laurel Thomas – at the Hide Bar & Bistro.

This was before he made his way into the stunning Yorkshire countryside to tour the infamous purpose built exterior village.

He was also pictured beaming in front of the famous Woolpack Pub in his casual jumper and chinos.

Upon the occasion, Mr Speaker said: “Incredibly, Emmerdale has been on our screens for more than half a century – shining a light on the lived experience of others; entertaining viewers with its hard-hitting storylines, while also making a major economic contribution to the North.

“It has been an honour to help the cast celebrate the 10,000th episode of this enduring Yorkshire-based soap, with a visit to the Woolpack.

“As a Lancastrian, I am hugely impressed by the talent and warmth of our friends on ‘the other side’ of the Pennines.”

ITV’s Managing Director of Continuing Drama in the North, John Whiston praised the politician on his visits to both soaps.

He said: “Showing balance between the Northern soaps, Mr Speaker is following up his visit to Coronation Street with a visit to the other side – Emmerdale.

“We are all honoured to welcome him in The Dales. And we have assured his team that no floods, fires, bus crashes, plane crashes or lightningstrikes will hit the Village while he is there – unusually for a Friday.”
