Monty Don, born on July 8, 1955 in Iserlohn, Germany, is most recognised for his work on Gardeners’ World.
He joined the popular BBC show as presenter in 2003, taking over from the out going Alan Titchmarsh.
In 2008, Monty stepped down from his presenting duties due to suffering a minor stroke.
He rejoined the show in 2011 but decided to take another break in 2021.
Monty returned to Gardeners’ World in 2023.
Outside of Gardeners’ World, Monty starred in Around The World In 80 Gardens in 2008.
The show followed him as he visited 80 different gardens across the globe.
He has since globetrotted some more to make shows Monty Don’s French Gardens, Monty Don’s Italian Gardens and Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens.
In March 2024, he announced that the final episode of Monty Don’s Spanish Gardens episode will be airing on BBC2.
He said: “This was filmed last year when I spent seven weeks in Spain across April, May, June and October and covers over 40 different gardens right across Spain.
“I found it an exhilarating and fascinating experience with stunning gardens and learned so much more about the country – despite having visited many times before as a tourist.
“It looks incredible, and hope you find it as entertaining and rewarding watching it as I did making it.”
Who is Monty Don’s wife, Sarah Don?
Monty met his wife Sarah while studying at university and they married on July 29, 1983.
For their 39th wedding anniversary in 2022 he wrote on Instagram: “We got married 39 years ago today – the picture is a little faded, a little wrinkly, like us but the love is as evergreen and strong now as it was all those years ago.”
The pair ran their own costume jewellery business from the early 80s to 1987.
Their pieces were sold in 30 countries all over the world, featured in Vogue, and boasted celebrity fans including Princess Diana and Michael Jackson.
Ask Sarah what the worst thing is about living with me and she would probably say that I always put work above everything else.

The brand – Monty Don Jewellery – was stocked in Harrods and Harvey Nichols, and the couple went on to open their own store in London’s posh Knightsbridge.
Monty previously told the Independent that Sarah was “75 per cent of the designing brains” while he was the salesman.
Sarah also admitted, that during that time, she sometimes felt “invisible” as suave Monty was very much the face of the brand.
Speaking in their joint book, The Jewel Garden, she said: “I would spend months working on a creation, drawing, refining, going backwards and forwards to the factory, checking samples, sorting out publicity.
“It was always a collaboration, though the factory owner who made up our jewellery only seems to listen to [Monty]. I was invisible.”
Sadly their business went under in 1987 following the Wall Street Crash, and the couple faced bankruptcy.
However, since then she has switched her attention to writing and is an author, and as well as her joint book with Monty, has also written The Home Cook.
Do Monty Don and Sarah Don have any children?
Monty and Sarah have three grown-up children – Tom, Freya and Adam.
Tom is the youngest of the three, whereas Adam is the eldest and father to George and Daisy Rose.
Little is known about Tom and Freya as they have kept themselves out of the spotlight and haven’t made themselves known on social media.
However, Adam’s Instagram account is public so Monty Don fans can have an insight into his son’s life.
He told The Guardian in 2009 about his life and career: “Ask Sarah what the worst thing is about living with me and she would probably say that I always put work above everything else.
“To the detriment of my children, my wife, my health, my life.
“And what I am really bad at is saying no.”
