TWO powerhouses of the British food scene are being put to the test in the latest Channel 5 show.
Whether it’s a plate of fish and chips or a Sunday Roast, these two pubs have become staples on the high street.

Chef Philippa Davis will review some of Wetherspoons’ and Toby Carvery‘s most popular meals in this Channel 5 show.
Both pubs are hugely popular for their affordable meals, but they are often compared to each other.
From a full English breakfast to mac ‘n’ cheese wrapped in a Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips to a roast dinner, Philippa will taste her way through dishes on both menus giving her expert verdict.
The competition will take place over four rounds that include breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks.
But it’s not clear whether the show will try some of the new additions including Wetherspoons’ Korean crunchy chicken strip burger.
It regularly updates and introduces offers to its food and drinks menu, as well as making other changes to its pubs.
Foodies were also recently offered the chance to nab an entire roast dinner meal at Toby Carvery without breaking the bank.
Bargain hunters discovered a savvy loophole that allowed customers to enjoy the whole meal for as little as £2 per person.
However, it’s not always been such a pleasant surprise.
A customer bought a Toby Carvery delivery that looked like “four brown logs“.
The Thursday Starter Surprise bags were from his local branch in Darlington, Durham.
However, he still attempted to eat the order – potentially out of sheer curiosity as much as anything else – adding: “I had to spit it out. Even my dog wouldn’t eat it.”
Some of the more appetising food (we hope) will be tried by taste-tester Philippa, who is also an international private chef, food writer and consultant.
Having been brought up on a small farm in Dorset, England, her family reared and made their own produce.
At 18, she moved to London to pursue a career in cooking.
Toby Carvery has become a firm favourite for Brits[/caption]As a result, she worked at Lidgate Butchers, the one Michelin star venue The River Café and Moro before moving on to set up and run the cafe Mudchute Kitchen on London’s largest city farm.
She has been a judge for the Great Taste Awards as well as the Academy of Chocolate.
It remains to be seen whether any of these culinary dishes will delight her taste buds.
