THE woman accused of being the ‘real life stalker’ from Baby Reindeer has backed an MPs call for Netflix to be probed over the show.
Fiona Harvey, 58, has been at the centre of claims that she was the inspiration for the crazed character Martha on the hit drama series.
The Scots lawyer has repeatedly denied that what is portrayed in the series is true and even branded show creator Richard Gadd, 37, as “a psychopath” in an interview with Piers Morgan.
But streaming giant Netflix is now facing claims they failed in a duty of care to Ms Harvey after internet sleuths were able to identify her within HOURS of the show
And the evidence provided by the media company that Baby Reindeer is a true story, as suggested on the show, has been called into question.
Netflix exec Benjamin King appeared before MPs at the Culture, Media and Sport committee last week.
He said the show is “obviously a true story of the horrific abuse that the writer and protagonist Richard Gadd suffered at the hands of a convicted stalker”.
But doubts were raised by SNP MP John Nicolson who suggested the evidence might not be accurate.
He told the BBC: ” I will be writing to Netflix to ask them to substantiate the claim they made.
“It’s clear that the evidence given by Netflix to the select committee is disputed”.
He specifically mentioned the moment that Martha was convicted of stalking and sentenced to nine months in jail, but no one can find ANY evidence of Ms Harvey ever being convicted.
Mr Nicolson added that “the charge made – of a conviction – is very important. Journalists can find no evidence to back up the Netflix claim”.
Ms Harvey has now backed the Nats politician and former broadcaster’s calls for the evidence to be probed.
She told The Daily Record: “I am astonished that someone like that made a comment like that at a select committee hearing.
“Fair enough, they want to make a lot of money out of this but this is not the way to do it.
“This is nonsense. I mean, does anyone sane actually believe Netflix?
“The political will is there to shut down this nonsense and I commend John Nicolson for spearheading this.
“I would invite John Nicolson to call me about this.”
Ms Harvey has already vowed to sue Netflix and Richard Gadd over Baby Reindeer – which has been watched by over 65million people.
She is already in discussions with barrister Chris Daw KC on potential legal actions.
