The journalist explained that her baby would have been “due round about now”, so would have been sharing the happy news, as well as her novel.
Charlie told host Lorraine Kelly: “I am heartbroken and it has been a challenging time and to write book a bout trauma and then that happened to me, it is really recent.’
Speaking about what happened, she explained: “I did get pregnant.
“I did end up having a miscarriage very recently.
“I was going to announce the pregnancy during the book’s release, so I would’ve been sat here telling you this great news.”
The star, who is currently single, has undergone IVF without a partner.
Charlie also explained how much her IVF journey has affected her mentally.
She added: ‘It’s horrific. We don’t talk about that ever. It can really have a negative mental health impact.
“You inject yourself with all these hormones and then it is the “Oh is it going to happen?”
“And then for me it did happen but something went wrong and then you are left to deal with that.’
“It is kind of ironic as I kind of wanted to show this happy ending with this book and that was what I wanted to sit here and tell you, but I hope it is still hopeful.
“I went back over what I had written to help myself through that.”
Charlie has worked for a number of big companies over the years, including BBC, ITV4, Sky Sports, ESPN and Channel 4.
She’s also written a number of sports columns and blog posts for other publications.
Back in 2016 Charlie contracted malaria while in Rio covering the Olympic Games.
She fell ill after cycling to the Olympics on a six-week, 3,000 mile trek to raise money for a cancer charity.
Charlie later told The Sun after the ordeal: “I’m really worried I won’t be able to have kids, because I love kids.
“It’s weird at the moment and it’s not settled.
“They are looking into it. It’s a real, ‘please, please’ — I want to have kids.”
Charlie has also spoken out about her past as a survivor of domestic abuse.
Her stepfather abused her and her mother during their 27 year marriage.
Charlie was also abused by her athletics coach, Paul North, when she was 15.
He was convinced of multiple counts of sexual assault and one count of rape in 2002 and was jailed for a decade.
Charlie opened up about her trauma on BBC’s Nowhere to Run: Abused by Our Coach.
