3 BODY Problem has reached a dramatic conclusion leaving many viewers wondering if a second season is on the cards.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Netflix series.
What is 3 Body Problem about?
3 Body Problem is a new series from screenwriter Alexander Woo and Game of Thrones shepherds David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.
It is an adaptation of a bestselling sci-fi trilogy by Chinese writer Liu Cixin, an engineer with an understanding of physics.
The English titles of the trilogy are The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest, and Death’s End.
Three-Body Problem won Best Novel of the 2015 Hugo, the top honour of the Sci-fi genre.
The Netflix series initially follows the storyline of Liu’s first book but then diverges into its own narrative before setting viewers up for the second book.
Embarking on a riveting journey across continents and timelines, the narrative unfolds in 1960s China, where a pivotal decision by a young woman resonates throughout space and time to the present day.
As the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, a team of scientists known as the Oxford Five race against the clock to save the world from catastrophic consequences.
3 Body Problem continuously challenges conventional scientific norms, pushing characters to rethink strategies to figure out how to face humanity’s biggest threat.
The TV series stars Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao and Liam Cunningham.
Will there be another series of 3 Body Problem?
Netflix has renewed 3 Body Problem for another run.
However, it will be the sci-fi show’s last as bosses confirmed they’ve axed it.
In a statement, the showrunners said: “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion.
Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us”
The Hollywood Reporter originally claimed bosses wanted Netflix to bring back the show for four series.
It’s unclear how many episodes the second and final season will be, as of May 2024.
3 Body Problem is said to be one of the most expensive in Netflix’s history, costing more than $20 million (£15.9 million) per episode.
This doesn’t include the cost of acquiring the TV rights to Liu Cixin’s novels and the marketing for the seires.
The show topped Netflix’s TV chart for three weeks and spent seven weeks in Netflix’s global Top 10.
Although it received mixed reviews, Rotten Tomatoes critics scores rose to 80 per cent.
