And during the latest episode ITV fans threatened to switch off the programme over the star.

They claimed she was ‘pretending’ to like dogs in a rage on social media.

Alison’s latest visit to Battersea saw her and the team take in a police van full of dogs.

For one four-legged friend an eye problem resulted in an operation to remove the eye while another had a skin issue.

Reacting to Alison’s scene with the dogs, one viewer said: “The effort Alison is putting into pretending to be interested in dogs is really making me cringe. I can’t bear much more of this.”

A second wrote: “I just dont think Alison fits on this, shes not got the warmth and true love paul had for the dogs, does she even own one? Would prefer a replacement.”

However, viewers came to Alison’s defence and posted: “She is excellent in For The Love Of Dogs. Paul left some massive boots to fill and people won’t ever accept a replacement. It’s a shame because a lovely woman who clearly cares for the dogs as much as Paul did.”

“Alison, you are doing a beautiful job well done keep shinning,” said a another.

Meanwhile, Alison has been secretly dating Russian David Putman, who is 23 years her junior, for months but they went public with their romance just weeks ago.

Rob Beckett and Josh Widdicombe grilled her on their Parenting Hell podcast, and asked: “Are you single Alison?”

And she gushed coyly: “No… I’m not single.. I’m dating.

“I’m dating!”
