A NINETIES TV legend is set to make his comeback in the world of showbiz after taking a break from the limelight when he had a stroke.
Bobby Davro, who went to pursue a career in stand up comedy after making it as an actor, suffered from the health scare this January.
The funnyman had just come off stage following a standing ovation at a sell-out comedy gig when he collapsed.
A source shared: “Bobby was taken unwell during a gig last week in Surrey.
“Everyone in the crowd were hugely concerned about him.
“Bobby has now cancelled his upcoming gigs and is taking some time out.
“He has been struggling since the loss of his fiancee Vicky last year but threw himself into work to try and keep his mind off it.”
However, after some time in hospital and resting at home, the stalwart performer is now ready to take to the stage again.
Bobby has announced his plans to premiere a show at the Edinburgh Fringe this summer.
The comedy set will be called Everything Is Funny If You Can Laugh At It, and is set to run from August 2 until August 25.
The former EastEnders star shared: “With the laughter still ringing in my ears from the couple of Edinburgh gigs I did last Summer, I thought I’d come back and do the full run this year.
“I hope to prove two things – you’re never too old for a good gag and everything is funny if you can laugh at it. So if you like to laugh, come along – and don’t forget, if you’re on the frontline, you’re in the punchline! See you in August!”
Bobby became a household name in the 1980s and 90s thanks to a string of popular ITV shows on Saturday night; including Bobby Davro on the Box, Bobby Davro’s TV Annual and Bobby Davro’s TV Weekly.
He then joined the cast of BBC One’s hit soap opera EastEnders in August 2007, playing the role of Vinnie Monks, a love interest for Shirley Carter.
His first on screen appearance came that October but he left in autumn 2008, says his character “wasn’t very good and they didn’t give me proper storylines”.
What are the symptoms of stroke?
The FAST method – which stands for Face, Arms, Speech, Time – is the easiest way to remember the most common symptoms of stroke:
F = Face drooping – if one side of a person’s face is dropped or numb then ask them to smile, if it’s uneven then you should seek help.
A = Arm weakness – if one arm is weak or numb then you should ask the person to raise both arms. If one arm drifts downwards then you might need to get help
S = Speech difficulty – if a person’s speech is slurred then this could be a sign of a stroke
T = Time to call 999 – if a person has the signs above then you need to call 999 in the UK or 911 in the US for emergency care.
Other symptoms include:
- sudden weakness or numbness on one side of the body
- difficulty finding words
- sudden blurred vision or loss of sight
- sudden confusion, dizziness or unsteadiness
- a sudden and severe headache
- difficulty understanding what others are saying
- difficulty swallowing
