Comedy Central have green lit the show’s sixth series with eight new episodes set to be filmed this autumn.
In a show first, execs have also commissioned two festive specials – with a Christmas and New Year’s edition.
Speaking about the recommission, Rhod said: “I can’t wait to drag more famous faces back to their teens, slice open their adolescent mattresses, rifle through their embarrassing school photos, show the world their excruciating teenage diaries and generally tip their former lives upside down until the shame falls out.
I have such a laugh making this show I don’t even want to be paid. (*correct at time of going to press; incorrect now).”
Luke Hales, SVP Content and Brand Strategy MTV Entertainment Group, added: “We are delighted that Rhod Gilbert will be returning to Comedy Central to delve into even more celebrities’ toe-curling teenage revelations.
“This time, the festive laughs will also be flowing, as the series will include two special episodes celebrating cringeworthy adolescent Christmases and New Year’s Eves.”
Rhod Gilbert’s Growing Pains first launch back in 2021 and quickly became a hit with viewers.
A year after landing the gig Rhod revealed he had been diagnosed with cancer.
He did not disclose what type of cancer at the time until later revealing he was being treated for metastatic cancer of the head and neck.
He said at the time: “So while I never imagined that I would be a patient here, I know better than anyone that I am in the best possible hands.
“The NHS care I’m receiving is incredible. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone…but who knows, maybe I’ll come out the other end with a new stand-up show and a 40 minute rant about orange squash.”
As Rhod’s cancer was caught early on, he was able to be treated with surgery, followed by sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Speaking in late 2023, about getting his first all clear scan, he told Radio Times: “The best thing was that the tumour had gone, and it was once again an ordinary blood vessel.”
