The friendly cafe worker has had the odds stacked against her in recent months following her jail stint and dealing with her son Paul’s MND diagnosis and health deterioration.

The character was instantly shown to be up to no good as Bernie and Gemma were left wary of his arrival.
Denny first appeared after learning of his son’s illness via a radio interview he undertook.
The absent father showed little to no interest in developing an emotional connection and after leaving Paul unsupervised which caused him to endure a stint in hospital, he prominently backed off.
He even tried to flog Paul’s wheelchair whilst he was recuperating in hospital in a bid to make some quick cash.
In the wake of the turmoil of Paul’s deteriorating health, it forces Bernie to become reflective and it soon becomes clear that something is weighing heavy on her mind.
In upcoming scenes, Coronation Street viewers will see Bernie begin to lie about her whereabouts as it becomes clear that she is up to something.
This raises Gemma’s suspicions and she tells Dev that he needs to do some digging and find out what she is really up to.
Unable to lie to her partner anymore, Bernie crumbles as she shockingly reveals that she is a mother of three and not two.
Bernie has a secret son named Zodiac – known as Zac for short.
Zac was taken into care as a child and was later adopted with Bernie having no relationship with him
She does know that his names was changed to Christopher Green upon his adoption and she remains determined to find him to meet him properly once and for all.
With Bernie and Dev now both on the hunt for the missing son, there is only one Christopher Green left to contact.
She decides to pay him a visit but is left floored to learn he had died of cancer.
Rattled, she hit the bottle and downs alcohol to numb the pain after fearing she has missed the chance to meet her son.
Revealing the backstory to Zac being placed into the care system, Bernie actress Jane Hazelgrove said: “She had been with Denny quite a long time and they had the twins. He was a bully and quite controlling and she’s such a free spirit.
“It was never going to work. Her and Denny were having a really bad time and they decided they were going to split up.
Coronation Street's shock exits 2024
Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:
Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.
The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.
Paul Foreman will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.
After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite, portrayed by Peter Ash, was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.
Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.
Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.
Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.
Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.
The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.
Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.
Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.
It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.
Show stalwart Eileen Grimshaw is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour.
She’s had to leave the Street immediately after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.
“She went out and got off her face and a couple of months later she’s pregnant , and it’s quite apparent that is not Denny’s.
“She thought she was going to be able to cope once the baby arrives but she already had the twins, Denny is no longer around and she has got no one.
“She was really really struggling but also still quite selfish I think.”
