ITV viewers have seen young Liam Connor battle and grapple with his mental health in recent weeks amid a tough bullying ordeal at the hands of the evil Mason and accomplice Dylan.

Mason and his gang made Liam’s life a misery with relentless physical and online bullying.

The toll it took on Liam was catastrophic and saw him wrestle with suicidal thoughts and severe mental health issues in the aftermath.

Liam has attempted to be more open with mum Maria and step-dad Gary, especially after hearing of his suicidal ideation, but the teen has begun to hide his feelings once more.

Attempting to become more independent again, he has been fooling Maria into thinking that his mental health is on the rise again by asking to spend more time along and attending a new local martial arts class.

However, in tonight’s episode, Liam’s reality was laid bare as he could be seen suffering from more than one panic attack.

He opened up to Joseph Brown as he faced an attack whilst they watched a movie together.

Liam could be seen huffing on his inhaler in a bid to calm down as Joseph remarked that his behaviour was scary and unnatural.

Later on, as the boys looked for some more sweets and biscuits in the cupboard of Billy and Paul’s flat, Liam stumbled across the MND sufferer’s medication and decided to snatch it away for himself.

Liam had realised it was a medicine that could also treat anxiety amid his struggles.

Alone at home, Liam took the bottle of pills out and after another panic attack decided to take some.

The youngster was left alone as Maria was asked to work an extra hour in the salon whilst Gary was chasing after his ex Sarah amid a bubbling reconciliation.

As Billy returned home and discovered that Paul’s medication was missing, it did not take him long to work out that Liam must have taken it during his raid for sweets.

Dashing to find Maria, the pair were left stunned to walk in on the flat and see his body sprawled on the flat floor.

An ambulance was called and he was quickly rushed to hospital amid the overdose.

At the hospital, Maria broke down in tears as she blamed herself for not “being enough” as she worried that he had purposefully tried to kill himself.

When Liam eventually came round, she asked him why he had taken the tablets.

Liam said: “I saw the pills in the cupboard, I thought they’d help.

“I’ve been having panic attacks.”

As Maria questioned if that was the only reason, she said to her son: “Liam, I need you to tell me the truth.

“No matter what the answer is, I love you. Did you take those pills to try and kill yourself.”

Liam bemoaned as he insisted “no” and that it was all just to help ease his anxieties.

In recent weeks, Maria had been scared stiff to let the youngster out of her sight and slept on the floor beside him as well as spying on him through hidden cameras.

Will this new setback, cause her to step things up a gear in order to protect Liam?

Coronation Street's shock exits 2024

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite, portrayed by Peter Ash, was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Eileen Grimshaw is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour.

She’s had to leave the Street immediately after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.
