EastEnders viewers know that this is because Yolande was sexually assaulted by Pastor Clayton last month, but she has been unable to tell her loved ones about her ordeal.

In tonight’s episode, their worries increased when Yolande didn’t attend the unveiling of the new soup kitchen van, a project she had pioneered.

As Pastor Clayton gave a speech about the van to members of the community, Yolande watched from afar before Elaine Peacock arrived and took her back to the pub for a heart to heart over a cup of tea.

Yolande had confided in her in the immediate aftermath of her assault, and Elaine encouraged her to open up to Patrick.

But Yolande was left horrified when she came downstairs into the pub and saw Patrick talking to Pastor Clayton.

Patrick had sought his advice about Yolande, and the twisted Pastor suggested her behaviour could be a sign of dementia.

Later back at home, Patrick tried to talk to Yolande, but she was distressed and said: “What did he say? Patrick you should not be talking about me, I don’t like it.”

Patrick apologised but said the Pastor had helped, saying: “It is going to be fine, it might not even be dementia.”

Yolande’s reaction was hard to watch, and she cried: “Dementia? That man told you I have dementia?!”

Patrick continued to try and reassure her and said: “I’m not going to stop because I care about you and we can face this together.”

But she told him: “Patrick, I am not sick, I am not sick! I don’t have dementia!”

He replied: “Then what is it?”

But the words caught in her throat as she said: “I…..I….” and then the show’s ‘doof doof’ rang out.

EastEnders viewers were left in bits over the scene, as one wrote on X: “Tonight’s Duff Duff is absolutely soul destroying. Setting the scene perfectly for tomorrow’s 2 hander episode between Yolande & Patrick.”
