Fans saw the photo on X and immediately jumped to the conclusion that Gyles was on the set because he’s got a cameo in Midsomer Murders.

However, his post gave absolutely nothing away. But he fed that narrative by writing “Posting this for a friend,” alongside the photo.

Still, fans were left wondering how and when Gyles might appear on Midsomer Murders, which has been renewed for a 24th series, despite fears that it would be cancelled following a slow start to series 23 last month.

Gyles’ selfie teases that he could appear on series 23 on the ITV drama.

The possibility has certainly excited ITV fans.

Commenting on the photo, one said: “Oh my actual god!! This is my dream! Midsomer Murders forever! Gyles, I literally cannot thank you enough for this!”

While another added: “Be careful. When Barnaby’s around, you know at least 3 people are going to be murdered.”

But rather than being a murder victim, many fans are convinced that Gyles could be the new Detective Sergeant.

However, the This Morning star has not commented on whether he will appear in the series and what role he might take on, leaving it up to fans to imagine for the time being.

Recently, though, Gyles did open up about his relationship with the late Rod Hull, who was famed for his emu and its TV attacks on Michael Parkinson

Rod died in 1999 after slipping from the roof of his bungalow and falling, but Gyles admitted he blames himself for the accident.

Former MP Gyles said he had encouraged his friend to climb up on the roof to adjust his aerial after complaining about his awful TV reception, which would ruin that night’s football viewing.

When Rod became exasperated with his TV picture while watching a Champions League match between Manchester United and Inter Milan, at half-time he decided to follow Gyles’ advice.

“I said, ‘Don’t moan about it, if you want to watch the television get a ladder out, climb on to the roof, and fix it Rod.’

“In this stormy weather, he went home, he got out a ladder, he climbed the ladder, and he tried to fix the aerial,” he explained.

Rod was 63 when he died in the incident declared by an inquest to be accidental.

Gyles went on to tell how Rod had previously declared his wishes for his funeral to recognise the emu for being the other half of his successful career – by having a knocking sound accompanying the entry of his coffin.

He added: “It was a great funeral though because at his funeral the coffin came in, and as the coffin was being carried in, it was a sort of [constant tapping sound].

“He’d arranged a beak sound to be inside the coffin as though the emu was also in the coffin.”

Will Gyles cameo on Midsomer Murders?
