RED Eye returned to screens last night, but some ITV viewers were left raging after watching the third instalment of the Richard Armitage-led series.

Episode 3 was full of twists and turns as Richard’s character, Dr Matthew Nolan, arrived back in Beijing, but viewers couldn’t get past a glaring blunder that had then been ready to “switch off.”

ITV viewers had a major problem with episode 3

Some Red Eye viewers were not impressed with the third episode of the action thriller which aired on ITV last night because they couldn’t get past a major issue with the episode’s sound quality.

Red Eye viewers wasted no time in taking to social media to air their frustrations and criticised the show’s “poor sound quality” and “overpowering” background music.

“Does Red Eye have music all the way through every bloody episode?” one viewer said on X, formerly Twitter.

“First bit of Red Eye where they don’t whisper and they’ve stuck some s*** loud music over the top of it,” fumed another.

Along with the sound quality issues, some viewers also had issues with the episode’s plot.

“This is a load of s*** why am I still watching it?” one viewer raged.

Another agreed: “Nothing about tonight makes sense. So True about the whole episode.”

What is the plot of Red Eye?

The six-part series follows Richard’s character, Mathew, who is involved in an accident while on a work trip in Beijing, China. But no one is hurt, so he boards his flight back to the U.K.

However, upon landing, he is escorted into a separate room in the U.K. airport and accused of cold-blooded murder.

It’s alleged that he killed a woman during the accident after her body was found in the wreckage of his car. Adamant that he’s an evil killer, he is ordered to fly back to China in order to be brought to justice.

Matthew has no lawyer present when he is questioned and isn’t allowed to make any phone calls.

In episode one, a terrified Matthew attempts to flee the airport. However, he fails, and in episode two, he travels back to China under the watchful eye of DC Hana Li’s (Jing Lusi).

Matthew is already facing serious charges, but the situation becomes even more grave when a number of mysterious deaths occur on his flight.

ITV viewers are divided over the miniseries

It was the storyline over these deaths which left viewers divided last week.

Thrillers viewers can’t stop talking about

There are plenty more thrillers ready and waiting to be streamed on Netflix.

  • Netflix fans are absolutely hooked on the ‘mind-blowing and harrowing’ miniseries Baby Reindeer which is based on a true story.
  • Viewers couldn’t get enough of the Korean crime thriller Killer Paradox and say they binged it all in one night.
  • Netflix fans can’t get enough of this 10/10 thriller which they say is the streamer’s hidden gem.
  • Viewers have called Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘surprisingly disturbing’ thriller Nighcrawler one of the best movies of the last decade.

Some ITV fans were thoroughly enjoying the action thriller’s twists and turns, but others couldn’t keep up.

They also thought the scenes set in the U.K. — journalist Jess (Jemma Moore) did some investigating on a police officer’s unlocked computer — were completely unrealistic.

Criticising the many blunders, one viewer said: “This plot in Red Eye has more holes than Swiss Cheese! 2 dead passengers, 1 dead dog, somebody messing with the controls and the captain blindly carrying on, then a high-ranking police officer leaving a journalist in his office with his PC unlocked? Give me strength…”

Meanwhile, other viewers have praised Richard’s performance and the show’s complex plot.

“I know there is a lot of criticism, but I’m actually really enjoying it,” said one happy viewer.
