Bluey has become a fan-favourite series across the globe. Created and released on ABC in Australia, it also airs internationally on Disney+.

The series follows the Heelers, an adorable dog family living in Australia. Bluey takes the lead alongside her mom Chilli, dad Bandit and sister Bingo.

Although the show now has three extra-long seasons under its belt, fans were still thrilled to discover that a previously banned episode was available to watch online.

What is Dad Baby about?

The Bluey episode Dad Baby has been banned in the U.K. and the U.S. and not shown on Disney+.

It should have been the thirteenth episode of series 2, but was replaced with the episode, Army.

The progressive episode reverses gender roles in a playful way as it shows Bluey’s dad Bandit pretending to be pregnant with her sister Bingo.

It begins with Bingo finding her old baby carrier and asking her dad to demonstrate it.

Once Bandit has Bingo strapped in the carrier, Bluey turns it into a game.

“You’re pregnant with baby Bingo, so you have to act pregnant!” she tells her dad.

Playing along, Bandit says: “Okay, if we’re going to do this, let’s do it properly.”

He begins complaining about having a sore back and sore feet, before realising how heavy Bingo actually is and starting to experience real-pain.

This doesn’t last long, though, and by the time the seven-minute episode is over, Bandit has “given birth” to Bingo in a paddling pool with assistance from Bluey, along with Lucky’s dad who could “see the baby crowning” at one point.

The episode is now available to watch on the official Bluey YouTube channel. It has already been streamed over a million times since its release earlier this week.

Bluey fans think Dad Baby is hilarious

Bluey fans quickly shared their appreciation for the previously unseen episode of the cartoon.

What's on Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime?

Looking for a new Netflix series to binge or the best movies to watch on Amazon Prime? We have you covered...

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan gushed: “This episode was banned for airing on TV here in the US but now it’s on YouTube lol it’s amazing.”

“Pregnant Dad is a riot. Lucky’s dad singing Hey True Blue while keeping one ear on the cricket, while delivering a baby is hilarious. Bingo announcing ‘born’ has killed me,” praised another.

A third commented: “Last night we watched the episode Dad Baby…OMG, it was sooooo funny. I especially loved Bingo being a little rascal and trying to stay in the papoose but also when she was eating the dim sims, hilarious. Love Bingo.” (sic)

Bluey writer Joe Brumm loves the episode Dad Baby just as much as fans.

He told The Hollywood Reporter that there’s always a careful balance of which storylines are appropriate from the show’s young audience.

“You’ve got to be really careful in preschool. There are two categories [of things that won’t fly],” he explained.

Continuing, Joe said: “There’s things that are going to get a kid hurt, and I rarely have an argument for that. The other one is more about taste — it’s what’s appropriate and what’s offensive.

“So, definitely lots of words have to get changed, and then behaviours and concepts get dulled down. And eventually I would just hit these walls, and sometimes I’d say, ‘Look, I can’t change this. This is too funny.’ Or, ‘I like it too much.’

“And so, we’d just be like, ‘Well, we just won’t show that entire episode or that scene or that sequence.’

“Some of them, like Dad Baby, for instance, don’t get shown in America. But what are you going to do, not make Dad Baby? I love it.”

More episodes of Bluey are on the way

The YouTube release of Dad Baby comes after creator Daley Pearson confirmed more episodes of Bluey are on the horizon — and they’ll be longer than usual too.

The series 3 finale, titled The Sign, was the first of these extended episodes. At 28 minutes long, it was almost three times the length of a regular episode of the cartoon.

And Bluey may not just be restricted to TV either.

“We would love to do a Bluey movie,” Daley also teased. “It’s no secret that this episode is kind of testing how an audience will go.”
