BERNIE Winter hides a major secret as abusive ex Denny arrives in Coronation Street.
The character – played by Jane Hazlegrove – got a shock this week when her ex Denny turned up on Coronation Street after hearing Paul on the radio.

His return prompted Bernie to let off steam to Dev about Denny, secretly worried that Denny might blab about her past.
Later, Dev found Bernie rifling through a shoebox of old letters and photos. When Dev asked what she was looking for, Bernie was left uneasy.
In upcoming Coronation Street scenes, Bernie’s secrecy continues, as does her hostility towards her ex.
Outside the flat, Bernie comes face to face with Denny, pushing Paul’s wheelchair.
Denny makes out he’s taking it for a service but Bernie doesn’t believe a word and threatens to call the police.
Meanwhile, Billy and Paul are despondent following their meeting with the council about the MND funding cuts, telling Bernie they need to look for other ways to fundraise.
They soon come up with an idea for a karaokethon, but after keeping it going all night, Paul, Billy and Gemma are dead on their feet.
They tell Bernie that she’s done a great job, but the weight of her guilt secretly hangs over her.
Bernie tells Gemma she’s sorry that she’s been such a rubbish mother, leaving her daughter perplexed.
What is Bernie hiding? And will her family find out what she’s done?
Denny (Danny Cunningham) cornered Bernie outside the café after hearing Paul on the radio talking about his life with motor neurone disease.
Wanting to bond with his son before he dies, his presence was not entirely welcome by Bernie or Paul’s other half, Billy (Daniel Brocklebank) who knows Denny was physically abusive to his family.
