A TOP-RATED crime drama will be returning to UK screens next month after a hugely successful response to the show.
US crime-drama Tokyo Vice starring Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe premiered its first season on BBC One in November 2022.
Tokyo Vice is returning to UK screens for its second season[/caption] Golden Globe nominee Ansel Elgort stars in the acclaimed crime drama[/caption]Taking place in 1999, the plot follows American journalist Jake Adelstein, who has relocated to Tokyo and must pass a written exam to have the opportunity to become a staff member at a major Japanese newspaper.
Under the guidance of Hiroto Katagiri, a veteran detective in the vice squad, Jake starts to explore the violent world of the Japanese yakuza.
The series is based on a 2009 book of the same name, written by Jake Adelstein.
Season 2 has already aired for US audiences, beginning in February and concluding on April 4.
Review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes gave a 92% ‘approval’ rating for the drama’s second season.
However, UK fans eagerly awaiting the show’s return won’t have too long to wait.
New episodes will begin from Tuesday, May 14 at 10:40pm on BBC One and will also be available to stream on iPlayer.
The first season filmed on-location in Tokyo, with cast and crew spotted using neon-lit alleyways of Kabukicho.
Kabukicho has also served as a filming location for movies such as Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Academy Award-nominated road drama Drive My Car.
