A source told the Mirror: “Shirley is a fabulous choice, and is impressively fit thanks to years of ballroom dancing.
“She will be able to show off her strength and determination and show Strictly viewers a whole other side to her.”
Yesterday, Shirley took to Instagram to let fans know that “there is no cancer present” following her mammogram.
She said: “Thank you to you all for your well wishes following my two mammograms, one ultrasound and three biopsies last week.
“I am feeling blessed to share that my results have come back all clear – there is no cancer present.
“Sharing the picture to my story last week very much triggered my emotions, but I feel it’s only right for me to share both the highs and the lows of life.
“If I was able to help just one lady, then sharing my picture was worth it.”
Celeb contestants flew to Costa Rica over the weekend for the show scheduled to air next year.
The highly anticipated series, hosted by Holly Willoughby, will see the celebs learn survival skills with adventurer Bear Grylls.
Celebrities such as Spice Girls’ Mel B and rugby union star Danny Ciprian are set to join Shirley in the upcoming series.
Mel, 48 told her friends that she joined the show to help cover the costs of her upcoming extravagant wedding to hairdresser Rory McPhee, 36, at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
A massive budget of £10million had reportedly been splashed into the show.
On the show, survival expert Bear will chase the stars through the jungle, with the stars racing away from him in order to win.
Formally announcing the show, which will air next year, Netflix said: “Bear believes there’s an action hero inside us all — even the celebs — but how strong is their will to survive?
“As Bear puts them through their paces, those who fail to impress will face the dreaded ‘Bear Hunt’ — a brutal game of cat and mouse where they’ll be hunted down and, if captured, eliminated from the show.”
