TOWIE fans were left stunned after a fan-favourite star showed off a “dangerous” cooking “hack” in a nail-biting video.
The ITVBe star had his knuckles rapped after whipping up a seemingly simplistic chicken curry jacket potato dish.
Harry Derbidge, 30, is making quite the name for himself as a chef on Instagram, previously showcasing his mouth-watering hot honey chicken tender creations.
Recently, he enlisted the help of his air fryer for his fakeaway style dinner – yet in another video changed tack for an “easy and affordable dish.”
The TOWIE favourite told how he had already put his potatoes in the oven for 40 minutes.
Yet eagle-eyed followers called him out as he said: “I have added the washed raw chicken into a pan.”
This prompted him to clarify: “When I say washed chicken, I rinse the chicken under water before cooking, I don’t literally wash the chicken with soap haha.”
Yet this wasn’t enough for some fans, with one pleading: “HONEY DO NOT WASH CHICKEN X” – in advice backed by the NHS.
A second put: “Yep! Stop washing chicken!!!! Your splashing all that raw chicken water in and around your sink. Cooking chicken kills all bacteria.”
A third bluntly put: “Look it up. You should never wash chicken.”
One then added: “Washing chicken before cooking is an unnecessary practice, according to health authorities. Instead of ridding the poultry of bacteria, washing chicken only increases the risk of food poisoning and cross-contamination.”
The NHS actually recommends not washing raw chicken – so Harry may need to tweak his technique.
The website states people “should never” wash raw chicken as it can risk being infected with campylobacter bacteria.
The bacteria causes food poisoning and is the most common cause of the illness in the UK.
Splashing water from washing chicken can also cause it to spread across hands, work surfaces, clothing and cooking equipment.
This Morning fans were previously left horrified when Gok Wan told them to wash raw chicken.
Yet many of Harry’s fans overlooked the mishap to praise his culinary skills.
One mused: “You’ll end up with a cooking show next.”
A second put: “Banging.”
A third then surmised: “This looks good Harry.”
Do I have food poisoning?
Food poisoning is rarely serious and usually gets better within a week.
It’s hard to miss the symptoms, which include:
- Feeling sick (nausea)
- Diarrhoea
- Being sick (vomiting)
- Stomach cramps
- A high temperature of 38C or above
- Feeling generally unwell – such as feeling tired or having aches and chills
- The symptoms usually start within a few days of eating the food that caused the infection.
- Sometimes they start after a few hours or not for a few weeks
How to treat food poisoning
You can usually treat yourself or your child at home.
The symptoms usually pass within a week.
The most important thing is to have lots of fluids, such as water or squash, to avoid dehydration.
You should also see a doctor if along with other symptoms you have high fever, blood in your stool, or feel dehydrated or unable to keep any food or liquid down.
Make sure you stay off school or work until you have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days.

Seeking solace
Harry may well be seeking solace in his home after we were first to report on his feud with BFF Ella Rae Wise.
The Sun exclusively told how the pair locked horns at the recent finale wrap party.
It came after Ella questioned Harry’s loyalty towards her after he became close to her love rival Amber Turner, as well as her pals Chloe Meadows, Courtney Green and Elma Pazar, referred to as Girl Band.
A source has now told The Sun: “Ella and Harry’s relationship has become strained ever since he grew friendly with girl band and she started dating Dan.
“The row had been building up for a while between them and after a discussion was brought up, it ended badly.
“There were a lot of things said in the heat of the moment, with Ella questioning Harry’s loyalty.
“It even split up their friends who took sides in the clash. Now no one’s sure if they’ll be able to make up and go back to how they were before.”
