FORMER Coronation Street star Katy Cavanagh could be about to become the next British soap star to win an Oscar – after a surprising new career move.
The actress – who played Eileen Grimshaw’s sister Julie Carp in the ITV soap – walked away from the limelight in 2015 after seven years in order to support son Noah Jupe’s burgeoning career in Hollywood.

He has starred in A Quiet Place films opposite Emily Blunt, The Undoing with Nicole Kidman and Franklin alongside Michael Douglas.
But now he’s 19, the actor has teamed up with his mum Katie and dad Chris Jupe, to launch a production company to make their own films.
And part of it has seen Katy turn her hand to screenwriting.
The star has penned a script for a psychological thriller described as a cross between The Beach and The Talented Mr Ripley.
A source said: “Katy’s not only a Corrie icon but a hugely talented writer. Teaming up with her producer husband and Hollywood superstar son is a no brainer. The sky’s the limit for them.”
Actress Katy played Eileen’s childhood friend Paula’s daughter Julie in Corrie with it later being revealed that her mother had been underage when Eileen’s dad took advantage of her.
The bombshell reveal came after Julie and Eileen’s son Jason enjoyed a night together – though mercifully didn’t sleep together.
Other storylines saw Julie lose her ovaries after a false pregnancy, relationships with Dev Alahan and Brian Packham and discovering that she’s related to cobbles icon Elsie Tanner.
Meanwhile Katy’s son Noah recently opened up to Variety about working with his parents.
He said: “It’s always been a dream of my parents, my mum was an actress for a while, my dad was a producer, been an AD, been on a film set his whole life, so we’re a very film family.
“We’re very savvy in terms of the industry. It was very helpful with me working as a kid because my parents would be on set and they know what they were doing, and they’d know about all the different intricacies of being on set.
“My dad’s got a very producer head, very smart, very logistical, my mum’s very creative. It’s a very good balance of all the things.”
