CORONATION Street’s Roy Cropper cuts off Carla Connor for good after horror collapse and brutal betrayal.
Roy and Carla have always had a close relationship, bordering on father and daughter at times.
But tensions have appeared between the pair in recent episodes after Roy found out that Carla knew about the fabricated story her nephew Bobby had told police regarding missing Lauren Bolton.
Bobby changed his statement to say he had seen an intruder at Lauren’s flat before she disappeared.
This ended up implicating Daniel Osbourne, and Roy briefly had hope that the ‘new evidence’ would help secure bail.
However, his hopes were dashed and later, during a chat with Carla, he discovered Bobby had lied and his friend knew.
In tonight’s Coronation Street, Roy was found collapsed in his cell when he failed to meet his niece Nina in the visiting room.
He was rushed to hospital, but when Carla tried to visit him, the prison officer guarding the ward told her she was no longer on Roy’s list for visiting rights.
After Roy was visited by DS Swain, Carla was eventually allowed in to see him, but was left crushed by what Roy had to say.
Lying in his hospital bed, an exhausted Roy told her: “I’m still not certain that my choice was the correct one.
“And now I have failed to correct the situation, I am complicit in yours and Bobby’s crime as well as being partly responsible for the police‘s inability to find Lauren.”
Carla replied: “I honestly don’t think it’s going to make a difference to that.”
Roy was incensed, saying: “Honestly? Honestly? You bandy the word so casually it’s as if you didn’t grasp the meaning of it.
“I’ve no wish for you or Bobby to be punished for what you’ve done, nevertheless, your deceit is something I cannot move past.”
Taken aback, she asked: “What are you saying?”
Roy replied: “I feel very uncomfortable and I’d rather you didn’t visit me again, in fact, as far as I’m concerned…this is the end of our friendship.”
Carla said he didn’t mean that but he said firmly as he looked her in the eye: “I’m afraid I do, now I’d like you to go, I really need to rest.”
