Coronation Street fans convinced iconic character is returning to save Roy Cropper from prison after 12 years off screen

CORRIE fans have developed a theory that a character who left the cobbles 12 years ago is set to make a comeback to save Roy Cropper from prison.

Poor Roy has been locked up until he can go to trial for the alleged murder of Lauren Bolton, leaving fans enraged as the cops have no body or evidence that she has been killed.

The man has desperately been trying to prove his innocence to no avail, but viewers have been speculating that one particular person could save him in court.

Roy became a father figure to troubled young Becky McDonald (Katherine Kelly) back in 2006 as she struggled with thieving and aggressive behaviour.

She had a perilous existence on the soap for six years, filled with feuds and affairs, until she left the cobbles for Barbados in 2012.

Fans have started to speculate that she might reappear in Coronation Street and testify to Roy’s character.

Taking to social media to discuss characters they think should come back on the show, one person wrote: “Becky, she could come and help ar Roy.”

Someone couldn’t agree more, exclaiming: “Becky for Roy’s sake!”

A third agreed: “Becky 100%.”

And the sooner she comes the better, as Roy has been struggling with his health since being put in the slammer.

He recently had to be rushed to hospital after he was found unconscious in his cell.

While recuperating in the ward he began to remember a conversation he overheard between Lauren and Max where the girl mentioned getting a necklace from an unknown boyfriend.

Dee Dee took it upon herself to try and find out who the mystery beau is in an attempt to absolve Roy.

But if the fan speculation is correct, Becky could also come to the rescue.
